PAL received a $115,000 grant from the Reinvestment Fund. The Reinvestment Fund is a National Fund Manager for the Healthy Food Financing Initiative at USDA Rural Business-Cooperative Service. PAL’s grant request, the PAL Food Hub Success Plan, will allow the organization to hire experts to create nine strategies that will be implementation-ready and that help the Hub better operate and ultimately position the Hub to get more local food out into the Spartanburg community. These strategies include planning for business development, SNAP outreach, community engagement, food safety, farm-to-school efforts, farmer consulting, meal box development, GAP certification and food system development.
“Our PAL team is thrilled to receive this grant and partner with the Reinvestment Fund. PAL’s Food Hub has grown organically since its inception
as a response to the need for more healthy local food. To ensure the most effective impact and sustainability of the Hub, PAL wishes to step back, analyze growth potential, expand outreach, improve systems and processes, and seek expert feedback. This grant will provide the Hub that opportunity while preparing PAL for strategic investment moving forward.”
