Despite a few recent frosty mornings, summer will be here before you know it. Staying active in summer is important for everyone. Spartanburg County has plenty of opportunities to be active, indoors and out, for all ages. Here are just a few.
Along with the usual fitness classes, sports leagues and swimming opportunities, the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg offers a Summer Day Camp program that keeps kids moving.
The Spartanburg County Parks Department offers Summer Camps, Adventure Camps and loads of classes, sports, and events for kids and adults at locations all over the county.
The City of Spartanburg Parks and Recreation Community Centers provide classes, camps, programs, and fitness facilities all summer long.
The local Girl Scouts council also offers lots of summer camp experiences, as well as year round opportunities for girls to be active outdoors.
Did you know that all branches of our county Library have all kinds of fitness classes and kid-centric craft, media and game events? Check out the calendar and plan a visit.
For families looking for a variety of activities or a last minute “something to do”, check out Hub City Kids.
And finally, check out The Rail Yard Park just off Forest Avenue between Pine Street and Union Street on the very popular Mary Black Foundation Rail Trail. The outdoor fitness equipment has been available for several months and weekend yoga classes will be back with the warm weather. In addition, keep checking on the amphitheater next to the Trolley Station, which is currently under construction.
