Over 15 years ago, PAL began its work to help make Spartanburg a healthier place to live by increasing opportunities to play, walk, run and bike. PAL has become the community leader in trails and parks development and construction, and bicycle/pedestrian safety.
PAL developed this park to provide another active space for the public to enjoy. It has features that cater to young, adolescents and adults to encourage all to be physically active.
We support and promote the improvement of physical education through increased physical activity before, during and after school.
PAL has been working with many public and private partners to implement 32 miles of continuous trail that will allow you to ride or walk from Glendale Shoals to the east to the heart of our community in downtown Spartanburg to the old Anderson Mill to the west.
For several years, PAL has worked with school districts to develop open use agreements that allow public access to school playgrounds and walking paths during non-school hours. These polices increase opportunities for healthy activity in our neighborhoods. Locations with open access include Pine Street Elementary School, Drayton Mills Elementary School, Dawkins Middle School, Woodland Heights Elementary School, and Oakland Elementary School.
